Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 9, 2026

Our Block is a hyperlocal community and advertising platform built to connect residents and local businesses at the block level — the 50 or so households that make up your immediate neighborhood. We are committed to earning and keeping your trust, and that starts with being clear about how we collect, use, and protect your information.

This Privacy Policy applies to residents, Block Leaders, Community Coordinators, and local business advertisers who interact with Our Block through our platform, newsletters, mailers, welcome kits, and any other touchpoints we operate. Please read it carefully. By using Our Block, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you sign up as a resident, Block Leader, Community Coordinator, or business advertiser, you may provide us with:

  • Name, email address, phone number, and mailing address
  • Home or business location (used to assign you to the correct block)
  • Business name, category, description, hours, and contact information (for advertisers)
  • Payment information processed securely through our third-party payment provider
  • Communications you send us, including support requests and feedback

1.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you interact with Our Block's digital products, we may automatically collect:

  • Device type, browser, operating system, and IP address
  • Pages visited, links clicked, and time spent on platform
  • Engagement metrics (e.g., whether a newsletter was opened or a mailer was scanned)

1.3 Information from Third Parties

We may receive information from trusted partners who help us operate the platform, such as address verification services and payment processors. We do not purchase or broker personal data from data brokers or social media platforms.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and verify your block assignment
  • Deliver local content — including newsletters, welcome kits, and event highlights — relevant to your specific block
  • Connect local business advertisers with residents on the blocks they serve
  • Compensate and support Block Leaders and Community Coordinators in their roles
  • Improve the platform, measure campaign performance, and develop new features
  • Respond to your questions, requests, and support inquiries
  • Send you service-related communications and, where you have opted in, marketing messages
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect the safety and integrity of the platform
We do not use your information to build behavioral advertising profiles for sale to third parties, and we do not sell your personal data. Our advertising model is built on geography and block-level context — not on tracking your individual behavior across the web.

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 Within the Our Block Community

Residents on a given block may see block-level activity, such as community announcements and local business features. Your full name and home address are never shared with business advertisers. Block Leaders can see the general size and composition of their block, but not individual resident contact details.

3.2 With Business Advertisers

Local business advertisers see only aggregated, anonymous data about the blocks they advertise on — for example, the number of households served and general engagement metrics. They do not receive individual resident names, addresses, or contact information.

3.3 With Service Providers

We work with trusted vendors who help us operate Our Block, including email delivery, payment processing, printing and mailing services, and platform analytics. These vendors are permitted to use your information only to perform services on our behalf and are bound by contractual data protection obligations.

3.4 For Legal or Safety Reasons

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Our Block, our users, or the public.

3.5 Business Transfers

If Our Block is acquired, merged, or its assets are transferred, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and your choices under this policy will continue to apply.

4. Block-Level Data and Advertising

The core unit of Our Block is the block — approximately 50 households. Our advertising model is built around this geography. When a local business advertises on a block, they receive access to that block's residents through curated touchpoints: digital newsletters, printed mailers, and welcome kit insertions.

Advertisers pay for access to a block's audience, not for access to individual resident profiles. All advertising is hyperlocal and contextual. We do not profile individual residents for the purpose of targeting them with personalized ads based on their browsing habits, purchase history, or inferred interests.

Aggregate engagement data (such as open rates and delivery confirmation) may be shared with advertisers to demonstrate campaign performance. This data does not identify individual residents.

5. Block Leaders and Community Coordinators

Block Leaders and Community Coordinators have elevated roles within the platform. As part of your role, you may have access to information about the households on your block or in your market area. This access is granted for the purpose of fulfilling your role and may not be used for any other purpose, including personal solicitation, data collection, or sharing outside the platform.

Block Leaders and Community Coordinators are required to maintain the confidentiality of resident information and must not share, sell, or otherwise disclose resident data to any third party. Violations of this obligation may result in removal from the program.

6. Your Choices and Rights

6.1 Access and Correction

You may review and update your account information at any time by logging into your Our Block account or contacting us directly. We will correct inaccurate information promptly upon request.

6.2 Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and personal information at any time. We will honor deletion requests within 30 days, except where we are required to retain information for legal, financial, or safety purposes.

6.3 Marketing Communications

You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or contacting us directly. You may still receive service-related communications (such as account notices and delivery confirmations) after opting out of marketing.

6.4 Physical Mail

If you receive Our Block newsletters or mailers and wish to be removed from physical mail distribution for your block, you may contact us and we will update your preferences within one mailing cycle.

6.5 California and State Privacy Rights

Residents of California and other states with applicable privacy laws may have additional rights, including the right to know what personal information we have collected, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate data, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Our Block does not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information in Section 10.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include encrypted data transmission, access controls, and regular security reviews of our systems and vendors.

No security system is impenetrable. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law and take prompt steps to mitigate any harm.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services to you. Advertiser and payment records are retained for a minimum of seven years to comply with financial and tax obligations. When information is no longer required, we delete or anonymize it.

9. Children's Privacy

Our Block is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or platform features. When we make material changes, we will notify you via email, in-platform notification, or a prominent notice on our website at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of Our Block after the effective date of any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
